My Honest ALVAR RV400A Projector Review
I was dubious about what a $70 projector could achieve (it’s currently $90, but I had a discount when I purchased it). However, I’m quite happy with this buy. First and foremost, I had overlooked the fact that it came with a fabric screen to put up, which I didn’t need right now but may use in the future. But it was the image quality that took me by surprise. Of course, 1080p magnified to 100″ displays some pixelation, but the clarity was excellent. The sound is mediocre, but I’ve never seen a projector with fantastic sound, even ones costing $2500, so I suppose that’s OK for the price. Another feature I like is that the connectors are on the sides, so you can tilt the project backwards at an angle to project onto the ceiling without having cords in the way.
The only drawbacks I can think of are that the remote doesn’t come with the two AAA batteries required, and the focus can become a bit wacky if you alter the keystone (like it’s a balancing act to get the full image in focus), but that’s a common complaint with projectors. The projector advises 6 feet from the screen, however I projected mine into a vaulted ceiling approximately 15 feet away and it was absolutely clear.
This is a great item for a family movie night, inside or outside, and I strongly suggest it.
