My Honest Yoton Y3 Projector Review

I’m pleasantly pleased at how small and powerful this tiny projector is. Because it is compact and light, it may easily be carried in a small backpack or purse. The black and white design is very appealing. The buttons, inputs, and adjustment wheels are simple to locate and recognize. It’s nearly plug-and-play in terms of setup. It comes with a normal power cable, which may need to be extended depending on where it will be used. The angle leveler is difficult to set up. The device, on the other hand, is stand/tripod ready, which made all the difference in placing.

I tested it with a Nintendo Switch, a laptop, an iPad, and a Chromecast. They all functioned flawlessly. The Yoton Y3 projector does not allow wireless casting and is not “smart,” so you will need to have the appropriate HDMI adapter or wireless dongle (they do include a regular HDMI cable).

Because it is rated at 100 lumens, it requires a darker atmosphere to truly enjoy the image. Having said that, I was amazed that I could mount it on a wall, and the fact that it isn’t super-bright helps since too much light may be reflected on the wall and reduce visual quality. I was able to enjoy the image despite the warm, low lighting. I was able to stretch the image to around 120 “before it blurred. Up to this point, the concentration has been effective. I would have liked a wider range for the keystone, since 15° is just insufficient in certain circumstances. Now, Yoton Y3 projector’s resolution is 480p, and I was concerned that my 1080p+ material would look terrible. So, I’m happy to report that whatever item I viewed was clear enough to enjoy, even at the largest screen size. Of course, the quality is noticeably worse than when viewing it on a TV, but I’ve seen worse in bars and other “professional” settings.

The sound from the projector is just not that nice. It sounds like the sound from a standard laptop. However, if you don’t have a set of speakers, it’s still nice and loud enough. I propose a 3.5mm cable portable speaker. Alternatively, just plug in your preferred headphones. I wish Yoton had added Bluetooth connectivity, a rechargeable battery, a tripod, and/or a low-cost carrying case or bag. Having said that, at this price, it’s a no-brainer. At the very least, they supplied a convenient remote (no batteries though).

Finally, I highly suggest purchasing one of these to have on hand in case you need to quickly put up an inside or outside screen on the move.
