My Honest LG 27UP850-W Monitor Review

I’d been looking at 4K displays for far too long before settling on this one. I have a Macbook 16 “as my primary computer and had been using two 27” 1080p displays for my extended desktop, which worked well, but I wanted to tidy up my desk a little by switching to a single external display and knew that I required the real-estate.

The picture quality on LG 27UP850-W monitor is great, and it provides me with the extra room that a 4k should. As a Macbook user, one of the features I like the most about this monitor is its USB-C port. I’m running 4K footage and charging the Macbook quickly. Furthermore, the two USB-3 connections are ideal for my external camera and my Logitech keyboard/mouse dongle. With the USB-C and USB-3 connections, it has tidied up my desktop just as I had hoped.

The display menu is simple to browse using the ‘joystick control,’ and it really allows you to navigate without looking at the controls.

The only issue I have is that running a full 4K on a 27-inch display is difficult. “The tiny writing on the panel is a great challenge for the eyes, but it is clearly adjustable. I wouldn’t utilize a 4K monitor for office work with anything less than a 27-inch screen “. The only other issue that comes to mind is that the power ‘brick’ is rather large, but this isn’t a major problem.

Overall, I like LG 27UP850-W display and might imagine purchasing another one if I ever need additional desktop real estate, but for now, it suffices.

Frequently Asked Question on LG 27UP850-W Monitor

Q. I have a MacBook Pro 2020, and I connected the USB-C connection to the display, but there is no image on the screen. Do you have any suggestions?

A. Are you using the USB-C cable that came with your LG 27UP850-W? If your MacBook Pro 2020 isn’t recognizing the monitor, try removing and reconnecting the wire. The native resolution of this display is 3840 x 2160, and the native refresh rate is 60Hz. Check that your graphics card’s settings are configured to produce the proper resolution and refresh rate for the display.

Q. Hello, my name is Chris and I’m a photographer seeking a color-corrected 4k monitor. Is the dci-p3 95 percent suitable for picture editing? Or should I seek another solution?

A. When it comes to selecting a decent monitor for photo editing for photography and graphic work that needs color accuracy and, more crucially, a wide color spectrum, there is only one display type on the market that consistently delivers these, and that is an IPS panel. You must also evaluate the resolution. The more information that fits on the screen, the better the resolution. This entails displaying more of the image or additional editing windows. When you zoom out, you can see more details. A Full HD (1920 x 1080) display is recommended for picture editing. Even a 4K (3840 x 2160) IPS screen may be had for a reasonable price — but there is no maximum limit. Color space is essential for accurate color representation. The display should cover at least 90% of the sRGB spectrum and 70% of the Adobe RGB spectrum. These color spectral ranges are industry standards. The typical 8-bit color space for the web is sRGB. Everything that makes it to the internet is in sRGB. Adobe RGB has a wider color spectrum. The DCI-P3 color space is larger than sRGB but comparable in size to Adobe RGB. The majority of the colors in P3 are also available in Adobe RGB. DCI-P3 comes close to covering approximately half of human color sensitivity, whereas sRGB covers slightly more than a third. Because of its larger color space, Adobe RGB is used by many professionals to process their work. However, as previously said, sRGB remains the dominant color standard for many devices and applications. To process materials in Adobe RGB color space, you will require viewing or editing software that supports Adobe RGB. Nevertheless, DCI-P3 is gradually becoming the most used color measurement for goods. The LG 27UP850-W Monitor covers 95 percent of the DCI-P3 (CIE 1976) Color Gamut and has a typical brightness of 400 cd/m2 and a minimum brightness of 320cd/m2, a Contrast Ratio of 1200:1 (Typ.) and a viewing angle of 178 (R/L), 178 (U

Q. I’m looking to purchase a monitor for color grading. However, I’m perplexed as to why this monitor has a larger color gamut yet costs the same as the ASUS Proart Pa279cv.

A. A larger color gamut is not the only element that influences monitor cost, so even though the LG 27UP850-W covers 95 percent of the DCI-P3 Color Gamut, you should compare it to other similarly priced displays based on connection and other features. Different color gamuts, such as sRGB or Adobe RGB, may be used by other displays. The DCI-P3 has a range comparable to Adobe RGB (approximately 25% larger than sRGB), but it extends further into the red and yellow regions and less into the cyan and green areas. Then there’s the fact that the displays are manufactured by various manufacturers, so their price structures aren’t the same.

Q. Is it compatible with HDCP2.2?

A. Because the LG 27UP850-W is a 4K monitor, all of the monitor’s ports must be HDCP 2.2 compatible in order for a 4K signal to pass through. A 4K signal will not pass through if any device in the signal route is not HDCP 2.2 compatible.
