My Honest LG 24GN600-B Gaming Monitor Review
This monitor is excellent overall, with just a few small flaws. It has no actual defects, and even the most serious problems are small and seem exaggerated when compared to a poor TN panel. (Those have defects that extend many arm lengths.)
However, some flaws do exist, and they revolve on its picture quality, which is superb but not as good as my previous BenQ PD2700Q. (Which had a DisplayPort sleep problem, so I used that as an excuse to upgrade to a GSync-compatible model.) I wished for better gameplay.) So, even if I criticize it, it is in comparison to a monitor that is the finest of the best in terms of visual quality.
Speaking about Gsync, LG 24GN600-B is AMAZING when used with a powerful GeForce card. The games are as smooth as butter now. Variable framerates and refresh rates make a significant impact! I’m quite pleased with the improvement!
But now for the niggles. The primary irritant for me is the edge design, which was fully discretionary and might have been improved. When seen from a different angle, the edge fades, blurs, and fuzzes. Although it is just 0.5cm, the screen’s edge is not pixel flawless. It’s as if they were attempting a wrap-around edge like on a smartphone… except worse. It’s particularly annoying when you’re accessing settings or painting pixel-perfect graphics on the exact edge, like you would in Photoshop, for example. See the picture; it’s a darkened blurry fuzzy rectangle with a darkened blurry fuzzy rectangle around the border.
The second major irritant is the screen’s uneven red hue, which is most noticeable on black backgrounds. They are not completely black; rather, they are quite black with a strong reddish hue. It’s strongest at the bottom left corner. The illumination is also not exactly equal, with visible fading towards the screen’s edges and bottom. (However, unless you have a PD2700Q like me, it’s definitely better than every TN and IPS you’ve ever used.)
I expected fewer regressions coming in, but LG 24GN600-B is a pretty high-quality display, and I doubt you’d notice any flaws unless you had a better monitor to compare it to. I did it because I am. But where my previous one falls short, I notice this one’s virtues, such as the great GSync and gaming capabilities, with which I am quite pleased.
My last criticism concerns the power adapter design. Simple NEMA power cords are preferable to pricey specialized power adapters with thinner wires that may quickly strain and break.
However, LG 24GN600-B monitor has grown on me, and I am quite pleased with my purchase. I still give it 5/5 stars, but if I had to be more exact, I’d say it’s a 4.7 with a tiny drop in visual quality when compared to the best. Still a terrific low-cost purchase. I would suggest it.
