HP Color LaserJet Pro M255dw Review

HP M283fdw Printer Review

I purchased this to replace an Epson inkjet printer that had degraded over the years and had ceased producing most colors. This is by far the most costly printer I’ve ever bought, but I needed a high-quality printer that will last a long time and print consistently. So far, I’m quite happy.

Initial Setup – I was worried after reading reviews that it would take me hours and multiple phone calls to customer service to get this item set up, but it was really rather simple. The instructions direct you to a website where you can download the program, so I just followed them and was up and running in a matter of minutes. I didn’t need to connect the printer to any computers; I just followed the instructions and everything was linked. Download the mobile and desktop applications and register on the HP Smart website to control your printer settings.

Mobile App – I wasn’t sure about using a HP Color Laserjet Pro M283fdw Wireless all-in-one laser printer app on my phone, but it’s really very nice. There are a lot of cool items on there, such as printables, which offers a ton of free printables, such as calendars, coloring pages, activity sheets, cards, crafts, and all kinds of stuff! There’s also mobile faxing and scanning, as well as the option to make picture albums and other features. I doubt I’ll utilize many of these functions, but they’re great to have.

Print Quality – I don’t print much, but I made some test prints and they seem great so far. Printing of high quality and cleanliness.

Mobile Printing – To print a picture from my phone, I didn’t have to do anything unusual. I just accessed the picture on my phone, touched the share symbol on HP Color Laserjet Pro MFP M283fdw, picked print, and the printer was automatically selected. It took around 30 seconds, but the quality on ordinary printer paper was excellent. Keep the photo/file open until the print window on your phone indicates that the item is printing.

Scan to Email – This was a little difficult to set up, but I found a useful article and will explain how I accomplished it. First, I entered our email addresses to the address book in the scan tab of the desktop HP Smart software. You also need an outgoing email address to scan to email, so I set up a Gmail account for the scanner. I added this email address to the outgoing email profiles, using smtp.gmail.com as the server and port 465. Check the box that says “SMTP server needs authentication” and enter your email address and password. When I tried it, I received an email stating that Google had banned the attempt, so I went online and found an article with instructions and a link (simply add /settings/security/lesssecureapps to the Google URL to access this option). I enabled less secure applications for the printer account, which solved the problem. Please keep in mind that a copy of each scan will be kept in that email account’s sent folder.

2-Sided Printing – This was not my printer’s default option, but I was able to change it using the HP Smart website.

Touchscreen – I believe the touchscreen on HP Color Laserjet Pro MFP M283fdw is simple to operate. If any setup is necessary, it will show a message describing precisely how to accomplish what is required, which is quite useful.

I’ve only had this printer for a few weeks, but I’m quite impressed with it thus far.
