My Honest GRC TYUII-1218 Projector Review
I got this projector to use outdoors on clear evenings to break up the monotony of “watching TV.” I took everything out of the box and lay it all out to make sure everything was there, which it was. It includes an HDMI cable, a three-way audio/video cable, and a power wire. It comes with a remote control that simply controls the projector, a rubber lens cover, and, of course, a power wire. It includes an in-projector speaker that is quiet enough for indoor usage, but it may be connected to external speakers through the earphone connector on the side.
It also comes with a well-made cloth case with two independent pockets in the base and additional folder-style pocket on the top. The left pocket in the base is for the projector itself, and it features straps that link with Velcro to keep the project securely in place while carried. The second is a bit smaller and holds all of the cords and the remote. It lacks any straps to hold any of the cords in place, but with everything put in the projector’s compartment, it fits snugly and doesn’t need anything to keep it all in place. The instructions and fast start guide are kept in the lid pocket. You could put the remote or a couple of cables in there, but there’s no way to keep it from sliding over on top of the projector. I don’t believe a wire would harm the projector’s casing, but the remote may harm the lens housing, in my view.
GRC TYUII-1218 does not include a wifi dongle, which must be purchased separately. The user handbook and quick start instructions are both very simple to grasp. My 7-year-old nephew utilized the fast start to connect the wires and begin playing a movie, demonstrating how simple it is to operate. It includes a plastic enclosure and two methods to alter the image. The first is for altering the picture’s clarity, and the second is for modifying what I term the picture’s “tilt” vertically on the screen. It was really set up from the manufacturer for a great image if you placed the projector around 6 to 7 feet from the screen. It may be put closer for a smaller screen size or farther out for a much bigger screen, but the further back you go beyond 10 feet, I believe, the more difficult it is to get the image into focus. It’s not impossible, but the image is terrific at 6 to 7 feet and rather huge at that distance, so I didn’t set it any more than 10 feet away and the picture was still amazing.
I connected my DVD player, PS4, Xbox One, Wii, Dish Network Satellite DVR, Samsung S8+ phone, and Amazon Fire Tablet to GRC TYUII-1218 projector, and they all produced excellent images. I like utilizing the projector to play all of my gaming systems. There was no latency, and I could see EVERYTHING far quicker than I could on a 42-inch TV screen. If you’re stuck with a little TV, this is a major step forward. The image is clear and appealing. It is pretty near to the same visual quality as you would see in a movie theater, but it is not identical. It is such a little change that most people will not even notice it; but, if you see movies in cinemas on a regular basis, you will notice the tiny difference. This, in my opinion, is due to screen quality, and of course, the theaters use a much much better projector, but if you expect it to look exactly the same as the screen in the theaters, you will probably be disappointed with this or any other projector that I am aware of, unless you count a “movie theater.”
With the exception of the Wifi dongal connection, every item I connected was fairly simple to set up and just took a few minutes to view a movie. The Wifi dongal that I bought was a bit tough to make to work, but that is entirely unrelated to this projector. When I finally got it to connect, it was the same as the others: a fantastic color image that made me feel like I was at the movies in my own backyard.
