My Honest ASUS ROG Swift PG279QM Review

This monitor performed better than I had hoped. I had considered purchasing the more costly Asus ROG Swift/Strix 25 “versions once Nvidia announced Gsync compatibility for both of these Strix lines, but the option to utilize the ELMB function (low motion blur) at 240hz was what swayed my decision. No other display can accomplish that at the moment, and being more powerful for $150 less seems impossible.

Coming from a BenQ RL2455 24-inch that was a little bit big for my work area, a somewhat smaller 23.8″ wasn’t a problem compared to bigger displays. The size difference is hardly discernible. The picture is somewhat better in terms of color, but as with other TN panels, it will not be as vivid as an IPS. The 240hz display was instantly noticeable, since I had never seen more than a 60hz monitor in person. The only game I can dependably achieve 200+ fps with a 1070 GTX GPU is Fortnite, but since I was spending this much on a display, I wanted to make a better long-term investment.

I really like the features. My only small quibble is that the ASUS ROG Swift PG279QM screen darkens to compensate for the strobing while using ELMB. This isn’t a problem at night, and IMO, utilizing low motion blur is better than even Gsync (which you can’t use concurrently) since it reduces latency and eliminates motion blur when you swing the camera around in games. Also, the stand is rather big, protruding somewhat from the base, and the wires are a little difficult to feed into the rear at an angle once it has been mounted.
