My Honest Review on ASUS VivoBook 15 F512JA-AS34 Laptop

I was hunting for a laptop to replace my 8-year-old powerhouse. My requirements were: thin, 8gb RAM, 64gb+ SSD, 1080p, full-size HDMI port (no mini), Windows OS. I needed it mainly for web surfing, word processing, and some pretty mild gaming (modded Minecraft, Java version). After around a month, I’ve been happy with this machine for all of these tasks so far.

In reality, the ASUS VivoBook 15 F512JA-AS34 laptop exceeded my standards for gaming. I thought it to be unable to operate more than a few mods, but so far it has taken everything I’ve thrown at it. I haven’t overclocked the processor (intentionally, anyway-maybe windows do it automatically now and as such, I’m running 2.3Ghz in stock (I think).

I was a little concerned about buying this because of the feedback that focused on the consistency of the screen/view angle. However I am pleased to say that I did not have any problems with the visibility of the panel or the bent edges. I might only be plebian in my preferences, but it looks good to me.

The ASUS VivoBook 15 F512JA-AS34 laptop came with Windows 10 S, which I definitely didn’t like, but it was really easy to uninstall. The backlit keyboard is really a lifesaver. I haven’t expressly looked for this functionality, but it’s awesome. It comes with multiple brightnesses instead of a button, which, actually, is needless since the lowest level is bright enough. However as described in other articles, it does have a major effect on battery life (or so it seems).

The battery life of ASUS VivoBook 15 F512JA-AS34 laptop is my only quibble, but admittedly, I think it’s more due to my use, rather than to the computer itself. I’ve got several Chrome tabs running all the time, as well as Visual Studio Javascript, and mostly Minecraft, too. At this amount of use the battery lasts an average of 3 hours. But I haven’t timed it so that’s only a guess on my end.

All and all, I’m a lot happier with this $300 laptop than I was with my old laptop, which was double the price 8 years earlier. There’s no question that you will find better results with a higher budget, but if you’re tight on resources, I highly recommend this product.
