My Honest ASUS TUF Gaming VG28UQL1A Monitor Review

Finally, I discovered a fantastic monitor with no backlight leakage. It has some ips shine, which is OK since the black levels on this monitor are the greatest I’ve seen in an ips display so far.

Second, people are complaining about HDR being washed out for two reasons: 1) they are using HDR in games that do not support HDR. 2) Or they are playing a game that has terrible HDR implementation to begin with, such as Red Dead Redemption 2, which looks terrible and washed out when HDR is turned on (this is true even for the best TVs as it is a game issue and not a monitor or TV issue), but you can still fix this issue by tinkering with your PS4’s HDR calibration settings. Games that I’ve played on this display and that look amazing with HDR on the PS4 Pro are as follows: (Spider man, God of war, Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon zero of Dawn).

Overall, ASUS TUF Gaming VG28UQL1A is a fantastic monitor with the greatest black levels for an IPS panel and a higher quality than the more costly LG27UK, Ul, and UN series. Its dark levels are quite excellent, and regardless of quality, it makes every game that much more atmospheric and immersive. For example, Cyberpunk on PC at 1080p looks excellent on this display because of the dark depths (without HDR).

What are the disadvantages?

1 The Buttons and Display Options are awful and inaccessible/inconvenient.

2 There are no volume buttons or a volume wheel, therefore you must enter the OSD (on-screen display settings) to access the volume area and adjust the volume.

3 It does not have an HDMI cable and just a Display Port cable.

4 Horrible wire connector points (vertically placed in the back rather than horizontally, which LG monitors win in this department)

5 Finally, there are no fast buttons for changing input. You must to go into the settings to go from HDMI 1 to HDMI 2 to Display Port and vice versa.

So it’s a good thing none of the drawbacks have anything to do with visual quality, since this monitor excels in that respect. I believe they scrimped on these technical concerns in order to provide you with an Incredible display for this price, thus the shortcuts taken to provide such an amazing picture for this price are primarily the disadvantages I’ve described, and it did not come at the sacrifice of image quality, which is fantastic.

Of course, many people would consider 60hertz to be a “negative,” but for gamers who do not intend to play games at frame rates greater than 60fps, there is no need to consider this a disadvantage. It is only a disadvantage for those who are more concerned with performance in multiplayer games than with visual quality. And, no, the new consoles will not benefit from displays with higher refresh rates in triple A titles, and just a few games will run at 4k 120 hertz on the Xbox Series X or the PlayStation 5. It is a gimmick on which you should not base your monitor purchasing choice. I mean, the PS5 box says “8k”…does that imply games will run at 8k on the PS5 and you need go out and get an 8k TV to “future proof” yourself? No way, no how. Children are familiar with gimmick advertising.
