My Honest ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15 G533ZW-AS94 Gaming Laptop Review
Coming from a desktop system I built in 2019 (ryzen 7 3700x, rtx 2070 super, 32GB ram), this device completely destroys it in gaming. After playing with it for a few hours tonight, here are my early thoughts:
-The build quality is excellent. It’s not a Macbook, but it feels like a high-end Windows laptop should. I’m not a fan of the RGB lights, but I’m just using this as a desktop replacement. Fortunately, no one will see me lit up like a Christmas tree.
The ROG software supplied is simple to use. Some handy physical hotkeys enable you to rapidly switch between power modes (Silent? No way, I’ll take Turbo!) The ROG software makes it easy to enable the MUX switch (and does require a restart).
-Experimented with Battlefield 5 and Halo Infinite. The ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15 G533ZW-AS94 laptop handled both with ease (constant 100+ FPS in both with a combination of medium and high settings; I didn’t attempt to push it since I value performance over quality.) I’ll have to try some more demanding games, but even so, I’m seeing considerably better performance than on my previous PC.
Personally, I don’t mind the FHD screen since the image appears fantastic and buttery smooth with that fast refresh rate.
-In turbo mode, the fan becomes really loud, and I can feel a significant quantity of hot air flowing against my mouse hand. It’ll be great in the winter.
For the price, this thing is a beast. The idea that it can outperform good desktop gaming machines on a laptop is astounding. I’m excited about putting it through greater rigor, which I’m convinced it will handle well.
