My Honest ASUS L410MA-PS04 Laptop Review
I really enjoyed this tiny machine, and for the price, it’s a good deal in my view. It’s around 20% quicker than my tiny PC, which has an Intel Celeron N3450 Quad-core processor. Even Windows 10 (v2004) runs quickly in my testing with the 64GB eMMC integrated. I also run Linux on it with no problems, save that the wifi driver must be manually loaded (tested on Mx Linux, for instance). The Sandisk eMMC on ASUS L410MA-PS04 laptop has a sequential reading speed of 316 MB/s and a writing speed of 154 MB/s.
I started up the Windows installation, switched from Windows 10 in S Mode to Windows 10 Home for free in the Microsoft App Store, and then activated the free Office 365 subscription (1 year). After that, I cleaned out the disk and reinstalled everything. The drivers are available for download from the Asus website. I had no problems with Windows 10 20H1 (v2004), but when I tried version 20H2 (v2009), I experienced problems with the WIFI connection and decided to stick with 20H1.
The ASUS L410MA-PS04 laptop has an intriguing feature in that it has a vacant slot for inserting our own SSD NVME M.2. I didn’t put it through its paces since I didn’t have a spare SSD, but there are a few videos where someone has put in a 1TB SSD.
The supplied BIOS version was v302, therefore one of the first things I did was upgrade to the most recent version, v306.
It would be nice if it featured a lighted keyboard and an IPS screen. That would make it ideal for my requirements. It’s also pretty nicely made for a low-cost laptop. Overall, I’d purchase ASUS L410MA laptop again.
